A PRACTICAL GUIDE

Automate your Word documents.
Keep your own wording.

Turn a .docx file you already use into a reusable template. Enter the details once, apply your rules and create the next version without working through every repeated name, date or amount.

Build a template for free ↗Free includes the builder and preview. Word downloads require Starter.

What is Word document automation?

Document automation replaces the changing parts of a document with reusable fields and rules. Instead of copying an old customer file and finding every detail to change, you start from a template and fill in the information for the new document.

In Contraqt, you supply the Word file and its wording. The builder lets you add variables, conditional content and calculations. It is not a library of ready-made legal contracts or a service that writes legal advice.

From Word file to reusable template

  1. Upload a clean .docx file

Choose your own document and check that it contains the wording, tables and letterhead you want to reuse. Remove old customer information before uploading. Free accepts files up to 1 MB; Starter accepts files up to 5 MB.

  2. Add fields for changing details

Create variables for values such as customer name, address, start date and monthly fee. Reuse the same variable wherever that value belongs, rather than maintaining separate copies of the same information.

  3. Choose clauses and calculate amounts

Add rules for content that only applies in some versions. For example, include a support clause when that service is selected. Use calculations for repeated amounts, such as a unit price multiplied by a quantity.

  4. Fill, review and download

Enter the new values on the fill screen and review the preview. With Starter, download an editable .docx file. Open the result in Word and check the wording, amounts and layout before sharing it.

Documents you can turn into templates

Service agreements and contracts

Reuse your approved agreement wording while changing the customer, service selection, dates and charges. Conditional clauses can reflect the options selected for that customer. You remain responsible for checking that the final agreement is appropriate.

Quotes and proposals

Start from a quote or proposal you already maintain in Word. Reuse customer details and calculate amounts from your inputs, while keeping the final document editable for review.

Renewal letters

Use one template for recurring renewals, with fields for the new term, contact details and updated fees. Review dates and pricing before sending each version.

What is included for free?

The Free plan includes one saved template, the builder, variables, conditions, calculations and preview. No card is required to create a Free account. Generated Word downloads are not included in Free.

Starter costs £2.99 per month, including applicable tax. It includes five saved templates and 100 Word downloads per calendar month. See the full plan limits and cancellation details.

Where the workflow ends

Contraqt produces editable Word documents. It does not send documents for e-signature or include PDF conversion. Use your chosen tools for those next steps, and always review generated documents before using them.
